SIMPLY STUNNING. You Westerners sure are lucky to have an actual change of seasons such as this, and the scenery ain't so bad on the eyes, either. Something tells me that the majesty of this place can only be felt in person, so you real jeepers are also lucky in that respect. Thanks for sharing all these great photos.

Thank Jeff. Photos never seem to do it justice. The expanse of it all seems to get lost. I also must admit that I take these surroundings for granted...and I shouldn't. Living in Colorado my whole life has developed the attitude..."It's just another damn mountain I have to navigate." Tim

Great pictures. Tim is right when he says photos do no justice to this beautiful part of the country.

Living in Colorado my whole life has developed the attitude..."It's just another damn mountain I have to navigate." Tim I haven't been to Colorado for eons - trip to Pikes Peak, the Academy, etc., one of a few times carpooling across the country. I'm sure us Lowlanders would get on your nerves with exclamations like "the air is so clean!", "the colours are so awesome!" and the like .. complacency is a human condition, but it's not permanent. Hawky, come here and gag on the 'scent of Pluff mud', and you'll certainly rush back to the pure confines of the "damn mountains in the way" and feel that reset. Yo, HG and Moosey it might be time to consider pricing cross-country carriers to get us to the FCT so I can shut up talking and go sniff some clouds!

“The air is so clean”… More like… “Where’s all the air? I’m dying here?” It can be a shock to the system at 12-13,000 ft if you’re not used to it. That said, Scott didn’t seem to be particularly affected by the lack of oxygen.
I suspect I would be overwhelmed by the beauty where you live. Guys like me are fascinated by palm trees and ocean expanses. I think you’re on to something. Road Trip!!!! FCT 2016!!! (Maybe 2017. HG might be done with his Willys by then.)
A trip like that would be Epic, and unforgettable. A ‘once in a lifetime’ event. Splitting expenses and drive time could be the key. Rent or borrow a 20-24’ trailer and bring at least 2 Willys/GPWs with you. 27 hours of driving. 1,800 miles one way. Stop at my place. Take tour of Coors in Golden, CO. Wake up the next morning and head to Nathrop, CO. Set up camp at the Thirsty Dirt Ranch. Tear up the trails for a week, then back to reality. This would be a real treat for me…and a number of other regular participants. Wow.
