Original sending units in Jeeps had either cork or brass floats. When you buy a repro, you get a white plastic float. Omix Ada. I've had two crack where the lock they snap into, applys too much pressure. All is well and then zip, the gauge goes screwy. I found out doing a search that mustang and mercury products used the exact same size float made of brass. Then I found another the same only with a improved solid make up. No more holes and sinking. I orderd it. In the mean time I tweeked the round snap part out some so it doesn't put as much pressure on the plastic groove area. I hope I don't hear a clunk clunk soon! I tried a wine bottle cork that actually snaped into the ring, but it isn't big enough to float and operate the sender. The brass originals usually are rotten when they sink. Anyone else been here? A few years ago, the float in my GPW tank went kaput. I tried the cork route for awhile, but it ended up bloating and breaking apart.
I found on eBay another brass float. I can't recall what it went to...but with a little adjusting of the arm, it fits just fine. My only issue now is the repro sending unit isn't calibrated to my original gauge.

Whoa Dude, do I detect some hostilities here or what?? Come to think of it, I put a new sending unit in my "B" too, and this spring it quite working! I was reluctant to blame a new plastic float, but am seeing a new lite! The gauge moves all over the place, but real slow. I guess I'll have to remove the seat and have a look-see! Chuck

Sounds like Lee needs a Mahindra 3B! The English car hobby has been ruined by the replacement parts available also. Cheap rusting chrome, distributor caps that the rotor hits, condensors that fail right out of the box. No original type markings on the repros, and-----------non of it fits. That last statement is industry wide. When I see: Made IN India, I don't even take my foot off the gas petal and drive on by. That's good news about Walcks. I though they only had plastic replacements. Take note Chuckie, NO PLASTIC! Carry on. Oilly
