Perry M Chambers Jr. Oct 16, 1927- Sept 2, 2015 USN 1945-1946 USS St. Louis, CL-49.
His father made him promise to finish High School before joining the service, he enlisted in June of 1945. Served a year before being discharged. His heart was in the right place, just a little too young. The Greatest Generation gets smaller everyday.
Rest in Peace, dear Grandfather. Until we meet again....

Man, Gary, I am so sorry. Grandfathers are certainly special people. I lost my last granddad when I was 21. I was at least old enough to have really been able to know and appreciate him. As sad as it is right now, it's really nice that you got to become an adult (and family man!) and have still had him in your life. I'm sure he was proud of you and that he was able to see you grow.
Sorry, Gary.

Thank you all! All of yalls support means a lot. Sir Gary You are a very valued and respected member of this forum. It is both honoring and humbling that you share your personal life and thoughts here. We all do. That is a GOOD THING! We may all be thousands of miles apart, but we are like brothers. Family ! One of the most important boards on this forum is the Veterans Salute. If it all goes away tomorrow, that board will be the LAST to go down. Thank you for Posting your Grandfather there. In this hard time your are going through, remember only the good times you had with Grandpa, Your Father, and now YOU! Someday you will be Grandpa. Pass down the teachings and traditions of your family to that baby girl you have been blessed with. It is enviable that we all must leave this earth. Those who believe in Jesus Christ , The True And Only Gods Son as their Savior have a place in heaven. I cant wait for the day to see all of the people that I have been connected with my whole life there. It will be a Joyous Day! Until then, we must spread the word, and press forward. Best Wishes My Friend.

Right there with ya Gary. I sure miss mine. Heartfelt condolences.
"This is really great. Now you can drive me home when I'm drunk!" "But grandpa, I'm only 14. I don't even have a learner's permit!" "Yer doin' just fine. Just keep 'er between the rails."
