Getting some light grey sludge in my oil pan. I am using Rottella 30W diesel oil. It's supposed to be good. Maybe it doesn't have and detergent in it and that is causing to much condensation in my engine.
Anyone else having this problem. I don't drive short distances. My shortest is 14 miles and the engine easily get up to temp. I have a four row radiator and it gets to at least 165 degrees.

I fear you have problems my friend!, is the oil grey, or just the dipstick tube ?. Moisture is causing the problem, either a head gasket, cracked block. Winter weather and short trips will cause grey gook in the dipstick tube, fording deep streams in the Black Hills also . Keep us posted. Lee

I concur. It's a moisture issue. Are you getting oil in the crossover tube?

Might check your compression..... Excessive blow by from tired rings will do it also...
My old ford tractor had so much blow-by, it would sludge up the oil fill tube even on a warm day while working at operating temp.... Not to mentioned smoked like a freight train, lol..... Of course, the PCV valve and related accouterments would be a good place to start checking.
To the best of my knowledge, Rotella T has as much detergent as any other diesel rated oil. Diesel oil has more detergent than gas oil.

I just get a little of the tanish colored oil at the top of the fill tube. I don't have an oil air filter just a paper one on the end of the carb cap elbow. And a filter on the end of the oil tube crossover. No blowby. Great compression. No play in rods or crank. Just light grey buildup on the oil pan. Did some reading and it was common in most older cars.

I will sometimes get a bit of foam when I spend too much time idling during testing.
