Creeks and ditches out of there banks all around, Tornado went just to the north east of us, the second time in my life the sirens went off in town. We drove over and dived in my fathers storm cellar.
Too much excitement for one day...

Flood in Torrington Wyo last night and on top of that they got 14 inches of snow. So glad I am not there now. I sure do remember the weather growing up back in the day. Had snow on 4th July once.

We only got 20 inches. Not enough for Chewy to even turn his starter motor over for. Besides, it rained 4 or 5 days before the snow so 32,000 lbs of snowblower would sink down to the Titanic. I drove Al around in 4 wheel drive and the ruts have already started melting out the driveway. Supposed to be 70 by Thursday. Just a good watering for us. Oil

On our way back home, I stopped and talked to a nearby mechanic about doing some work on the Chevy....
He said one customers who just dropped a car off is the area tornado chaser.... He was just put on alert....
We ll be keeping our eyes to the sky here.....

I tell ya if you've never been close to a tornado count yourself lucky. We spent four years in Altus OK and in 1981 three of them baddies criss-crossed the base and made mincemeat of the maintenance kids' plans for not working. If'n I recall, C-5's were ripped from their ramp moorings and a C-141 was flipped clean over. Hail like baseballs, and us idiot kids went outside wanting to "see what was happening". Once you witness in person the green clouds and a funnel cloud forming, your perspective on life changes BUT QUICK! Y'all be safe, whether tornaders, floods or snow - oh my!

Seems like Altus, Lawton Wichita Falls, then all the way east to I-35 sees more than its fair share of twisters.... Lake Texoma is poised to go over its spillway for the fourth time since being built in '45..... Only supposed to do it once in 100 years, they said. We drove out to the dam yesterday, sure enough, they ain't lying. Hard to believe that the lake is over 35 ft higher than it was in the drought of 2011....thats a lot of water....

Geeze! Never satisfied!!!! lol! I couldn't get a good, decent pic of the spillway, to many people trying to do the same thing... Here's one damn (pun intended ) picture I took lower on the dam from the Texas side, as you can see the flood gates are open. The 3 big holes to left are the hydro-electric generator discharges, makes you wonder why they are not using all excess water to generate power, but I'm sure there is a reason... The pic doesn't do it justice on how much water is being released, but unfortunately, it's a drop in the bucket on what is being shed into the lake. Just for the ones who may not know, just to get an idea, Lake Texoma is one of largest man made reservoirs in the US, according to Wikipedia. It normal elevation is 617 ft above sea level (Hawkridge laughed when I mentioned this on the phone.... Don't know why ). It will crest the dam's spillway at 640, as I typed it was at 638.22. During the last big drought (2011) it was down to 604, when that happened one of the towns that was flooded out during construction, was above water again... I'm hoping to drive to Carpenter's bluff sometime, see how the Red River looks a few miles downstream of the damn site....

Thats all I needed, thanks for the picture. Does not appear to be a big river. I'll be looking down on you from 845 feet above sea level, LOL. we have had some rain the last few weeks and it was well needed, things have really greened up and the trees are leafed out. our rivers and lakes are low as we had no winter runoff.

Lee Not really... According to my handy-dandy Garmin, we are just about even when I'm standing in my front yard!! How's that for S and Gs! But, your right... The Red is not a big river, but unpredictable, as a matter of fact most people use air boats or john boats when fishing the river itself. Carpenter's Bluff is a somewhat popular play area for atvs and such, lots of sand and some water to fish and swim, unfortunately it mostly draws the ignorant red-neck types and meth heads. The Corps of Engineers will sound a loud horn one hour before they start to generate or open the flood gates. This has happened multiple times: Someone gets stuck or just doesn't pay attention, then what is a little bit water, is suddenly a lot of water.. Enough to fully submerge a full size vehicle in a matter of minutes.. Bye Bye truck... The Corps. of Engineers dont care one way or the other, the gates are going open.... Worked on Suzuki Sami that was flooded this way, the boy over-revved it and ventilated the block, and was the next morning before he sobered up enough to figure out how to get out... No amount of work could make it right..,,

We are alright, but if I read the forecast right, we are due for more bad stuff tonight.... San Antonio and the hill country look to be worse off than us northern folk.... God be with them...

Pictures from our Dam trip yesterday, lol!! Denison Dam, Lake Texoma that is. The highway from the Texas side is underwater and probably washed out, so you have to go into Oklahoma and access the dam from that side.... Which is not for the faint of heart... You have to be careful that you don't end up doing your best Ned Beatty impression.... just kidding... This is four feet of water going over the dam spillway This is the "lake" side of the spillway, if you look closely, you can just see the top of the roofs of the picnic table pavilions. There is also a dock, boat ramp and parking lot under there also.. It rained all last night, the weather guessers say it going to be a record breaker, before it's all said and done with.

That is an impressive amount of water and rainfall. From drought to floods. Both caused by... "climate change". These freakin' nuts have figured out how to blame everything on climate change. Funny, the "global warming" narrative wasn't working anymore so they change the words. OUR CLIMATE IS CYCLICAL!!!!!! STOP USING IT AS AN EXCUSE TO PICK MY POCKET!!!!! This is for the global warming climate change freaks...
