Here's the deal. The studebaker runs on the hot side. After shut down, the heat soaks the carb and literally boils the gasoline out of the bowl. It might also do it while on a hard run on a hot day.
How wrong would it be to take my fairly stock hood, already customized with weld beads, angle iron, on the inside (probably so you can lay a deer across it) extra hood latches and some funny bends on the leading edge, hood down to the hot rod shop and have 2-4 rows of louvres punched in it?
This would help me let some of the heat out from under there. Not stock, which is kind of my goal, but consider how much of this bucket isn't stock already.
An alternative might be to install the inner fender vents from the driver's side onto the passenger side where my intake/exhaust resides.

Have you tried a sheet metal heat shield between the carburator and the exhaust manifold? And--------if you put a 1/8 or 1/4 inch flat metal strip under your hood hinge, it would space up the rear of the hood and let heat out a bunch. Oil
