ScoutPilot: Here is one for ya while you pull the head on Blue.
170 cubic inch Studebaker L head champion 6 cyl. Volumetric Efficiency 75%. max RPM 5000. Operating altitude 8000-9000'.
I can't get jets for the Carter BBR-1 carb. Besides, the BBR-1 I have is for a bigger engine.
I would like to switch to a holley 1904 because I can get jets for it and I think the BBR-1 is leaving some performance on the table and unburned fuel in my exhaust. I can't get it to meter right in all conditions. (idle, cruise, WOT). Lean mix at high RPM caused by low vacuum might also be the root cause for my overheating on the highway at 60 MPH, but not overheating tooling around in the woods. Low vacuum signal might be cause by my oversized for the job venturi.
I read up on tuning notes from Walt Hanes. Using his input, I calculate that a carb for a 151" engine should serve me well up here at 8000+ feet.
Here ya go SCOUTPILOT! Holley 1904 should bolt on, and I can think of a couple of engines that ran that carb. Fords have that weird spark-a-vac-a-doodad on them. That takes me to the early IH Scout 152" 4 cyl. Holley model 1904 LIST#2924.
I have a holley 1904 for a bigger engine (yes it has the vis-a-flow bowl on it!) I have a holley 1904 #2924 on the way. (plain zinc bowl) What do you think, Scoutpilot? Barking up the wrong tree? How many different venturi sizes are there for the Holley 1904 series?

That depends on the year model of your motor:
List numbers for your motor are; R-2352-1A & R2352-1AAS or, for the 60-62 IHC, the 2352-A or 2445-a

Scoutpilot: Thanks for reading my post. I have the wrong list number up there. Corrected below.
I have a R-2994A carb. I want to put it on my 1952 Studebaker 6 cly engine running at 8000+'. Bad idea?
R-2494A 1904 I.H.C., 4 Cyl. Scout, 152 Eng. 890774-R91
Here is my BBR-1 boiling away after shutdown. Looks safe, eh?

The numbers I posted are the only ones shown for that motor. It might fit. It might work. Then again...
