Gotta agree with lee on this one. I just matched a semi-flat...yes semi flat black frame on a 1965 corvette. The mixing cup was a life saver. The guy at the paint shop said that he estimated that his mix of paint (black is the most difficult to match) would probably take a 12:1 catalyst to get the right/correct sheen. But he said that don't be surprised if you have to go up to a 14 or 16 to one....Well, the 12 was too glossy. So I went with a 16:1 on my next set of coats. spot on...I was lucky it only took the second mix to get it correct.
Point is that when you are working on sheen levels the amounts of mix can be very minute and require a bit more precision. If you are painting it all at once not as much of an issue...if you are trying to match, more of an issue.
My paint was so expensive they gave me the strainers, cup and a wad of stir sticks...

Right Haines, you and Shimmmmmmmmmmmms are bubba Picaso types, we know well the cheapo spaghetti sauce jar is the real deal and I bet when the Shimmmster isint painting he most likely eats his frosted flakes out of the "butter tub" he mixes in...........Now Steveale, he knows about mixing paint, and has all the trick stuff, Haines most likely filters through an old pantyhose and stirs with an old lath, LOL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Steve, how bout a picture of the Vette frame!

During assembly of painted, and cured parts, there will be scratches and nicks...YES? How have others "fixed this" after complete assembly?

i touched up mine, not a perfect job but good enough for me, or else an air brush will make it look better or finally before assembly make sure all paint is fully cured and use masking tape on the points that may likely be hit then peel off the tape after assembly and use soap and water to remove the residue.

Gillespie 33070. Darker shade than the washed out 319 for early WW2. I use the late also. My '51 M38's are going to be that color too. It matched the original paint the best, and I hate shiny paint on a army Jeep. John

It's been a little over a year since I bought paint from Ron (g503), but he did not charge the hazmat fee for the gallon can. If you want rattle cans, nobody charges the hazmat fee. For awhile I shopped around and got rattle cans from from rapco, g503, and army jeep parts (George Baxter up near Maryland? Somewhere). The shades were all pretty much the same. I used link TM ORD 9 on the WC...both rattle can and gallon. They've received a lot of good press for duplication WW2 shades. I was curios. It is slightly different from the others, but you have to look closely. Truthfully, the only ones I can tell apart are the WW2 paints from these venders vs the OD flat paint you buy locally from the big box stores (rustoleum and such).

John OK, 33070- early ww2 lusterless olive drab, a little darker than 319 and 34087 319- 1944-45 late war, lighter than 33070, and without the khaki tint of 34087 34087- lusterless khaki olive drab, most commonly used on ww2 restorations This was taken from a Rapco add. So, Oilleaker stated above 319 is for early WW2, Rapco says late WW2, or I am miss understanding this ? Also, Oilleaker stated "I use the late also", is that 319 or 33070 ? Oilleaker I hate to put you on the spot, but I am confused Lee

The great thing about Rapco is the selection. They must have 20 different military shades and lusters. If you're not sure what you want, you can buy a rattle can of every shade...spray something...then choose the best color for you project.

That's not that shiny. Looks good. I use reducer 1 part reducer to 4 parts paint. If it does not come out as I like I ad a little more reducer. That hood looks real good. Got anything to put it on?

Tim X2, I have purchased several gallons of 24087 (semi-gloss, 1955-70) from Rapco and painted my M715 and my car trailer with it, and has held up very well. I also have a gallon of Navy gray I painted one of my M416 trailers. The rattle cans need to be WELL shaken or the nozzels plug up Project Red Ass will get 319, it's a December 44 GPW that's the stuff! Lee
