I am tough but I am fair. Here is some more interesting information I've heard many people pronounce it will-eez—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.188.172.165 (talk) {{{2}}} The correct pronunciation of Mr. John Willys' name is WILL-iss. Will-eez came into use decades later. --Sable232 00:07, 30 October 2006 (UTC) That's what I've read - "Willis". -Will Beback 06:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC) Read where? There needs to be a cite provided in the article.139.48.25.61 (talk) 21:10, 27 June 2008 (UTC) There isn't any citation in the article, yet someone took it upon themselves to denounce the will-eez pronunciation. I've heard it pronounced both ways - Dslayer202 (talk) 13:21, 21 May 2009 (UTC) Right. In fact, in my 45 years' association with veteran/vintage cars (admittedly in Australia), I had never heard of the "Will-us" pronunciation until I spotted it in this article! Mind you, Aussies have been known to enshrine wrong pronunciations like "Pyoojoe" (Peugeot). Cheers Bjenks (talk) 00:44, 22 May 2009 (UTC) Strange, all this arguing from positions of ignorance. It took me precisely 12.7 seconds to find a Web site owned by a descendant of a man whose father worked for Willys Overland Motors in the 1940s and 1950s, who states matter-of-factly that "Will-is not Will-eze ... Will-eze is the language spoken by Will-is enthusiasts". So there. See mightymo.org/why_willys.html —QuicksilverT @ 00:35, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

How about FORD! Here is my Ford running right for the first time in 40 years. I filmed this for a Chevy friend of mine. BTW, my '47 is a Will-is. Haines knows of that he speaks.

Nothing better than a GPW representing the 8th USAAF, 56th Fighter Group, 61st Fighter Squadron.

We had a veritable blizzard here in coastal NC. Numerous bands of fluffy rain, wind, a bit of sleet. Even had a bit of hominy snow. How many of youze guys know what that is? Of course the grocery and China Mart were swamped. Tickles me to no end. I may have to buy me a Chewy if this keeps up.

HG, l have to agree with you I kinda like that cold white nasty crap too, if it's someplace else. But that's where the agreeing ends. Went to the Jeep dealer the other day they had a WILLYS in the show room. The sales staff had never heard of a Willis. Those Italian jeeps sure are nice.

Sales staff most likely never heard of a Willys-Willis or its correct pronunciation!................ Yes they are nice, if you like plastic.

He did that to begin a new chapter of discussion. This will never die. Sort of a solution to the dilemma. Maybe he should have spelled it: Willises. ?? Oilly

I'm the one who suffered a fractured tire. It is spelled right, but pronounced wrong on my rig. My wife and mother-in-law refer to the little red jeep as "Bruce Willys" with the technically correct pronunciation. However, this blanket they gave me would piss of the actor, Bruce Willis! Two wrongs make a right? I dunno. I do know that guests who underestimate the temperatures encountered while boppin' around in the cj2a are appreciative of the wool blanket no matter how it is spelled.
