Today we awoke to 50-60 mph winds. Sunny with fast moving clouds. I decided I'm not going to sit around. It's Jeep time. I got Herm out of storage and took Carol to lunch in Spearfish. Then since it was a tornado, I ducked into the canyon. Spearfish Canyon. Herm is my full hardtop 1951 M38 with 24 volt 20,000 BTU military hot water heater. 2 speed blower. It's fabulous. The temps were a steady 32-35 degrees out. Once in the deep canyon we left most of the wind behind. Followed the flowing creek all the way to Savoy, Cheyenne Crossing, and then up Muley's road where he lost his nut. Hana Creek Road. Went up to the pond where we got rained on last summer. Snowmobiles had the road packed hard as a rock so we drove right up to the pond. It was frozen over about 85 %. Then back out, up the hill to Hwy. 85, and down into Deadwood. From there we took a back road up to Mount Roosevelt. Some guy that had a cabin up there had plowed the road to his place and nowhere else. Tried the main road which wasn't maintained and found a tree across the road. Interesting drive. Returned to Deadwood and drove right down Main Street past Saloon # 10 where Wild Bill Hickock was shot holding the deadman's hand: Aces and eights. People were awestruck at the beauty of Herm arriving in style. They didn't throw gold nuggets though. Pretty sad. Back over the hill and down Crook City Road to home. A better day it was. I'm anxious for all the Jeep meets, soon to come. Anyone else ready? ?? Oilly

Sounds like something right out of a movie. I'm driving around in circles in my driveway. Jealous.

There is just no economical way to get to you. I might have to get really creative and find a way to Minnesota and stow away in somebody's trailered jeep.

Fuel, motel, food and spending a week driving would be more than a airline ticket to Rapid City if you book in advance. I'd be willing to pick you up. That's if the airline pilot knows where the Black Hills are. I like it up here. No lines to stand in and polite people. A cup of coffee and a muffin at the Phoenix Biltmore was 18 bucks. Or flying to Denver or Minneapolis and riding in with a fellow knight would be another possibility. Once you are here, you won't want to leave. Even I don't want to. I sense cabin fever is rampant. Get your hands busy on your Jeep and you'll feel better soon. Oilly

Jeep fever is at epidemic proportion! As you can see, the OD Mule and I have been working out and getting back into shape! I know it's not SD Red, Oilly, but it's what I got and plenty of it...

YA know what we can do is coordinate a "No Hills Jeep Meet" for us Lowlanders during the same time .. NOT because we don't WANT to make it, rather cos we just can't manage it affordably

Swamp romp. That there is funny! I don't think vintage hickories really fits that picture. Something more along the lines of shot gunning budweisers while atop of floating pallet stacks along the Edisto river and throwing empties at your competitors would be more our style.

Bless you Muley for showing us the mud. Mine looks similar. You know, the nice one with the hardtop that was clean. Not now. Hawky would be disgusted. But--------it's a Jeep. I built it to drive not put in my bedroom. As for the working class, that can't make it out west, remember, you will die in the end. With that thought, will anyone care? The answer is yes, your Jeep guys will feel pain. A example is the FCT spread one members ashes for him on Aspen Ridge. I was taken with that. Mine are to be spread on Flag Mtn. Fire Lookout. On a peaceful day, 1000 feet above Reynolds Prairie, it's so pristine you can hear the old H international below in the field raking hay. What a beautiful place. Sir Leemeister has seen it. So has others. I can't think of a better place. I hope my wife joins me. She is my soulmate. So, why not come for a experience worth much? Oilly

I am going to do my best to attend the Black Hills Meet this year. I have got to meet the Brothers. I was squelched last year. Not my fault. I am still to this day disappointed. As far as the Southern Swamp Meet. You can't get these Bastages to come over for a beer, let alone have a meet. I have an idea however. I will speak with Bo and Jeff about it.

Jeff and I live a mile apart. We are the majority of the low land three stooges. Why should we come to? You'll just use us for video propaganda, anyways. Hell, Jeff was over hanging out in my garage last night! Where were you? Probably making another low budget B rated film. We ain't got time for that. We're fixing jeeps over here!

I can't do more Brasso shots with Coors Light chaser. Last time my pee shined bright for a week! Did polish the throne up reeeeeel nice, though. In truth, I'm glad we didn't try the SuMP Run ( Summerville to Mt.P) when I thought about doing it, because I'm sure my head would've blown up right in the middle of the trip... As for the Black Hills Run, it's definitely a target - just moving too much too far away at this point.

If you Bastages ever come over here. How ya like me now!!!! Here's the deal. We do a promo in the early spring with the military museum involved. I will drive the bridge. I am not a sissy. Give me a few more weeks. You will see. In fact the Fargin News Paper will have it, as well as the local News on TV. I am a Fargin Folk Hero you know. Fixing Jeeps eh?..... That's for the Canuk... Seems to be your fixing the Jeeps you already built the wrong way the first time... Lucky Scout Pilot was there to save you eh.... Here's a slogan for you two...... We do it right, cause we do it thrice....

If you'd have read through the thread (not just looked at the pictures), you'd know that your best facebook friend Ron sold me a shitty part. In the end, the carb was built correctly...just with a non Henry approved F'ed up part that came in his kit.
And to answer your previous question about how I like you now? I like you a whole heck of a lot more knowing I don't need to come and visit you. Yeah, you and your decade old reconditioned jeep are both folk heroes. I'm sure Guinness will be contacting you soon for the longest restoration award. By the time you ever actually finish the jeep, it will be time to tear it down and start all over.

I did read the thread... Thrice..(Big Words Again) Like you fix your Jeep... If memory searves me, there was a whole bunch of incorrect parts floating around during the time period of your rebuild, except those conduit connectors... They have been around for a looooooong time! I understand why you are scared to run the bridge. You own a Dodge and A Ford.... It's OK BO BO... I will ride you over the Bridge in my Willis, or My Chevy Silverado...... My crusty restoration....... Hmmmmmmmm
