After riding in Sir Kalamajas Short Round. Something really grabbed my attention. The water can holder on the passenger side. I got to have one.
In this thread I am hoping Eric will share how he mounted the holder.
One of you Gentleman will have a Jerry can holder they would like to part with.
We could perhaps post and share about where Jerry Cans are mounted on Jeeps.

Depending upon the mission, they're mounted where they fit. Hood, bumpers, fenders, bed area, tail... Just look at the photos; Google " British Long Range Desert Patrol "

Derek Eddlestone wrote: My bracket came from one of the surplus dealers who brought a lot of vehicles back from Greece. I can't say I've cleaned it back to bare metal in search of a number but if someone was making them, they made a lot. My jeep had the holes already drilled in it to accept the bracket but at some point they had been welded up........ not very carefully, so they were easy to find and re-drill. The bracket is made of 3/16" plate. The widest part onto which the J/Can bracket bolts is 8" in width. From the widest part it steps back at 90 degrees towards the jeep for 1+1/2" on both the left and the right side. There is then another 90 degree bend in the opposite direction for a further 1+1/2". This second 'flat' has two holes drilled (total of 4) with 3+1/2" centres, equally spaced between the upper and lower edges of the bracket. The bracket is 5+5/8" in depth. The holes are sized to take 9/16" AF bolts.

The car industry had a fit about fuel tanks between the rear diff and bumper. Now look at where you guys put fuel! Under your seat, on the hood in front of you, and now on the step beside you. Must want to be a hot looking fellow!

Off the subject..... Well, kinda...
I've often thought of taking a rusted jerry can that's no good, and somehow making a storage box out of it and mounting it somewhere...

I have seen Bars, Tool Boxes, Tool kits made out of them. I think I would do that on the trailer that I will have someday.

Sir Eric, I have some 3/16 angle iron that was Grandpas, It measures 1 1/4. If I bought the plate 8x6 and welded it on top so to make the stand off from the tub, do you think the 1/16 of an inch would make a difference in the clearance for the windshield arms? I suppose if it did, I could use washers on the holder....THAT I NEED TO HAVE .

If you weld the plate on top of the angle iron it should be okay.

Almost forgot to ask. Any special brackets on the inside of the tub for that mount? Yes especially if you have weight in the can. I'll have to find a picture or maybe a drawing.

This was a fun project. I used Grandpas Montgomery Wards stick welder, not the MIG. Awesome! The angle iron retrieved from his garage has been repurposed. I had to use 3/16 x 3 " stock. I simply welded two pieces together, and ground the joint. Won a holder and strap from EBay tonight. Not a big deal perhaps , it is for me. Awesome , just Awesome!!!

Sir Eric. We need to talk about the support perhaps needed from the backside. Also methods of securely strapping a Jerry Can

I was trolling craigslist earlier and found a jerry can for sale. The guy had converted it into a radio. Had speakers and everything. That's exactly what you yahoos need.
