Roflmao, the greatest debate of modern times that isn't a debate at all. Even stock films pronounce it Willis-OverlUnd. Though I do still enjoy playing with my Willy.....guess it is from living right at the Mason-Dixon Line!

Seems the Mason Dixon line for Willis is the Mississippi river, the Bastages west of it have the speech impediment bad! . Makes one wonder how Mel Tillis pronounced it .

That's what I'm talking about, Oily! Even if I don't make it to the safe house, it's nice to know that it exists and it is thriving! I blame these willis wankers for literally driving (pun intended) me out of the debate. I sold my Willys...with no regrets! Even the extra block I have is a GPW now. So much safer that way. G...P...W Easy to spell. Easy to pronounce. Besides, we have bigger fish to fry, like try to figure out if the gasket on the front of the T84 should have an F mark. Yep, it should! Mine does! And so many of the oil seals have little F's. That thought should make Leaker's day!
Welcome aboard, Sgt. Don't let the sidetrack threads bother you.

My grandfather drove one in Germany ONE time and asked the motor sergeant if he thought the GPW was good. Motor sergeant said "yeah it's a good one" so my gramps told him to stick it up his hiney cause good things don't hurt'cha and give him his Willis back.

The veteran I restored my jeep for told me a similar story about his time in Europe. He was in an I & R platoon (4th ID/8th IR) and drove jeeps for 10 months in the war. He hated Willys. Said they were "undependable." Ford's were "reliable." Wish I knew which one he was riding in when they drove over the land mine. To each his own.

I know my gramps exaggerates but, he complained that no matter what they did to it, the steering was terrifying, the steering column was wobbly, the brakes were junk, it never wanted to start, etc...etc...etc... He probably added to it later in life when he started hating everything Ford in the 60s/70s. haha

Calm down boys. It's luck of the draw if you get a good one. They sell lemmons today, brand new, all makes. That said, I'll take a Willys or a Ford that's WW2. All you have to do is fix it and drive it. Simple as that. I like ALL my Jeeps when I'm done fixing the issues. Keep your fingers crossed, I'm working on buying # 9 right now----------or is it 10? Can't remember. I'm going down fighting, and driving a Jeep! Damn I have fun in them. I might even buy a Willis! Now that is Jeep Disease my friends. Oil

Ford had Willleeeese Overland scared enough to make Ford sign a contract that said after WW2 is over, they could not market the Ford Jeep. Willys had the ownership of the approved contract and planned for the Agrijeep and civilain market. Very interesting. Oil
