Jpet...Lee...you guys did a heck of job posting pics and videos for us no attending sad sacks. Thanks for including us. I know the camera does not do justice to what the eye sees, but DANG, South Dakota has to be the best kept tourist secret in America! You're a lucky man, Oilly. Everyone else is even luckier that you shared it with them.

Don't forget to save all the Black Hills gravel and dirt you wash off. Check for placer Gold you know! Maybe all that will pay for your trip----------bonus. I think I wore out those who attended. Not much comment. Sleep , wash, sleep, work, and slowly get back into the normal rut of life. It will take me a week to get back to normal. Oil

Oil LOL, I hit rain on the way home, near Watertown SD, all the way home, my Jeep is nearly sparkly clean!. My trailer is not!...... I traveled home on mostly two lane roads, followed the Lewis & Clark Trail along the Missouri River, I stopped at Wall and picked up Mooooooosey's t shirt (they had no medium, large will have to do!). I also snapped a funny picture on the west side of Watertown............... The videos were great fun to do, I wish I was better at it, I tried to do them at each interesting stop, as Oilleaker well knows the history of the area and that added so much to the experience ( thank you Sir). I have posted few pictures, and I have lots to post, as Jpet says photo's do no justice to what you see with your own eyes, so true, but I will post some of them as time permits.......... Back to rain, on my way out, I traveled interstate 90, west of Souix Falls the sky to the north was black with huge thunder heads, as it got dark the lightening show was spectacular, this lasted till I spent the night in Wall. Traveling through this area yesterday, I seen much distraction, farm buildings with the tin tore off, semi trailers on their sides, I went past a boat dealer and several boats were blown off trailers and scattered about a tree line near the property, a big mess, I was lucky to not get caught up in that.......... The week went much to fast!, I talked on the phone three times, never watched any TV, just spent time with our friends, and absorbed the beauty and history of the Black Hills............... Now, where the hell is my gold pan!. Lee

What?! There's gold in that thar dirt?! ..... Well cha....ching!
I made it back yesterday evening. It was sunny for me and Steve all the way home.
This week was a total blast! BAM BAM had fun too whether it was jumping in a mud hole, or being wingman for Dad's Jeep as he chased after Bugsy. Before we attempted to forde the sink hole, we were assured that the extraction team was on full alert.
I was inspired by the landscape, pine covered cliffs, waterfalls spraying my face, mountain towns, general store with a wooden floor and a piano in the corner. Jeeps are cool but even more, I love the places that they take us to. The fellowship with my friends was wonderful and memorable. As always, the food was awesome too! Carol makes sure that if you go away hungry, it's your own fault.
Thanks again John and Carol for opening your home and hearts to all of us. Thanks to all my jeeper friends for spending the week with me and making my vacation so fantastic. You are engraved in my memories and my heart. Looking forward to next year!

If you go downstream from where Jpet waded into the crossing, I used to clean out the cracks and pull grassy sod strips that also filled the cracks in exposed bedrock areas. Some nice "color" was always there if Gold was deposited by flood waters. Bedrock acts like ripples in a sluice box. Gold is so heavy, it will drop out there. Lead SD is where the Homestake Gold mine operated for over 100 years. There was a ore outcropping there (called a Lead) that was so rich, the early miners found heavy placer deposits in the gravel banks and bed rock cracks from Lead all the way to Whitewood on Whitewood creek. I am sure your eyes would have popped out if you got there first. Probably lined the lip of the pan with gold flakes several flakes deep, in each pan where a good spot was found. Can you imagine a quartz vein sticking up out of the ground with visable gold 1/4 inch thick in veins! Had to make you quite excited. I've seen ore that the hard rock boys snuck out in their lunch boxes that were from a rich deposit they would commonly find. They bared down and hand worked these areas in the shaft. High grade ore. There are still pockets of gravel here and there that the miners missed. Sometimes up on the hillside where ancient creeks flowed. Millions of years of erosion changes things. All good areas are claimed, so don't think you can just dip your pan in there. You could still to this day get shot for claim jumping. Seriously! Gold is where you find it, and Gold Fever is real! This said, don't sell your house and rush up here, you will be dissappointed. I already got it all and spent it on Willleeeeesssseeee Jeeps.

I am happy to report, "My Jeep is Green again" $12 bucks and some scrubbing, it looks better than when I left!. I did drain the diff sand trans/tc to remove and water that may have gotten in, I found only oil, that surprised me, as I was in some deep water, I will also drop the Ross box oil, and grease everything, give Dads Jeep a treat for treating me so well in the hills.............. Diana looked at all my pictures and video's, said she will be there next year, and was very impressed with the beauty of the Black Hills!. Lee

Here is some video that Mrs Binthere shot while riding with Lee
As said by others, the video does not do it justice. We are going down hill but you can't tell. Watch the end of the video where Dad's Jeep slides sideways.

Tough to add to what others have already said but thanks so much for keeping us desk jockey's included while you boys were ripping it up out there. Lee, you have a knack for humorous video narration. Very funny indeed.
And Jpet, the Roving Reporter is always on the front lines of any assignment. Keep up the good work.

John and Carol were great hosts. I can’t say enough about these two. They made this a very enjoyable experience. It was nice to see old friends and meet new Willys folks too. Binthere and Grumpy are true characters. I spent some time with both. At first glance…Grumpy isn’t so grumpy. Binthere…probably has been there.
South Dakota was beautiful. I was expecting it to be more like the Rockies in Colorado. It’s not. In some areas, the foliage was almost tropical. Very unique…and worth the trip.
Thank you again to John and Carol. Thank you to all the participants for making this a special week that I won’t forget. Lots of great stories. Lots of great trails. Lots of awesome folks.
I will have some photos and videos up soon.
Tim

We're expecting 1.5 million Harley Riders this year for a fricken week. Want to try and visit? ? I like motorcycles, but hey, enough is enough. I just can't get the picture anymore. As far as mileage on the BHR, if you didn't drive in reverse gear, back tracking counts for mileage in the competition. On the subject of Jeep gas gauges, I find they tend to never read over 3/4. If you bend the float lever until it reads full, then it will stay there too long and then all of a sudden drop to empty too soon. The old rule of thumb is if the needle is still rocking, you still have gas. As the English say: "any appreciable amount is good". Oil

LOL, thanks for the clarification on both issues............... I bet Oilleaker has a chopper, a complete set of fake tatoo's, leathers, ect. And spends the whole week in Sturgis proper drinking from the big Koolaid tap. Lee
